I’ve workes collaboratively with Barry Robinson Center (BRC) for more than two years as a mental health provider. I’ve found that while cases differ vastly, the majority of feedback I have been provided regarding BRC services, from clients/families and fellow mental health teams such as primary care providers, psychiatrist and therapist, report positive experiences such as stabilization, and improved functioning with ongoing case coordination. I’ve worked with many mental health treatment centers over my nearly twenty years of practice and I’ve been impressed with the fact that BRC is a non-profit facility, is treatment focused, carefully screens all applicants, does not accept cases to simply “fill beds” or house youth without evidenced based treatment. BRC views the return to one’s community, a primary goal and has a dedicated community liaison, Mary Lanier that works to facilitate transition to and from BRC while also ensuring ongoing collaboration while individuals are enrolled at BRC. The two clinicians which I have consistently worked with over the past 2 years has been consistent (which also speaks to the inner workings of BRC). The clinicians have demonstrated their clinical expertise and have post graduate expertise in their respective areas of clinical practice (again, further demonstration to the quality of care I have seen as a provider). I’ve witnesses excellent follow-up responses when I place calls to BRC. My only suggestions would be to have a campus closer to Fayetteville, NC! Thank you BRC for actually being a collaborative team player in more than a slogan on a brochure! You have modeled!
Wonderful staff and attentive service couldn’t ask more within Behavioral Health for children
I have had young relative there for some time and it has been wonderful. The staff and administrative team at BRC work well together to provide the child the best care possible. I have visited the facility several times processing afternoon and weekend passes with our family member. On each occasion the staff has been knowledgeable, courteous, and very supportive. The team approach to therapy with the weekly/monthly family briefing keeps the entire family involved in the treatment plan. Professional, knowledgeable, engaged with the mission of making the young child feel safe, secure, and ready to get better. My experience has demonstrated to me on repeated occasions that the BRC is working hard to provide the best service to the children and working hard to make them better. The team at BRC is top notch and works hard for the kids. They truly have the best interest of the children at the center of all they do They go the extra mile to get the kids what they need. Hats off the Barry Robinson Center and staff, they do an outstanding job in a very difficult field
We admitted our 16 year old in November of 2017. I can wholeheartedly say that it was the best decision for him and our family. He spent 5 months there and the techniques he learned at the BRC transformed him into a happy and functioning young adult. He has been episode free for 5 months now. He has improved so dramatically and we can only thank the staff at the BRC for this. He didn't like being there because he is an extreme introvert and wanted to avoid others whenever possible. Overall he loved the staff and made some lasting connections with other residents at the center. I do not know what we would have done had we not been referred to the BRC back in Nov and I thank God everyday for the staff and environment that helped us get our son back! I cannot speak to any abuse accusations in other reviews because we simply did not have any issues with this. When we did have any concerns (all with behaviors of other residents towards our son) the staff immediately took corrective actions. The nursing staff kept us informed and addressed our concerns with our son's health without delay. His therapist was a blessing for the whole family and I still ask her if she would consider moving to NC to be his therapist once again! If your child is in need of residential treatment, the BRC is the place to be! Their unyielding compassion for their patients is apparent in everything they do.
BRC provides "Top Notch" Behavioral Health Services Programming (covering Residential and Community Services) with top of the line nursing care to children in need of behavioral/mental health services. Its very tough, in these times, to find quality healthcare services that support a child in a such a comprehensive and "holistic fashion". It's also very important to remember that our children "are our future" and we identify them as one of the core elements and a very special component of the familial unit". Caring and qualified staff provide behavioral programming utilizing a "Trauma-Informed Care Model (Risking Connections), while integrating different types of modalities (spiritual services, music therapy program, scouting program, art therapy, Equine outings, rec therapy) that provide the supplemental support in keeping with a holistic medicine approach-essentially addressing the "mind-body-spirit" concept. On a "trauma level"...I'm 100% sure THAT EVERYONE CAN RELATE... because, ...really, "Who HASN'T experienced a certain level of trauma in their life at one time or another??? BRC is unfortunately "an unknown secret" with significant specialized programming resources to assist children and their families in addressing the many stressors that families continue to face and struggle with now...on an almost daily basis. I only wish myself and my family knew of this resource many years ago as it would have assisted our family (and probably would have assisted many of our friends and family) with navigating the many issues and challenges we faced, especially that of being a military family! Staff are extremely caring and engaged with the 24/7 care they provide. Let's all remember that children are "the most valuable resource and the future of our country". We receive SO many testimonials from families regarding the positive changes and effects that BRC has made on their child! BRC is the Place to Be! Please continue to support our efforts as a non-profit organization in Hampton Roads supporting children and their families with behavioral health Residential, Community Services, and Foster Care needs.
I admitted my niece there and I must say it was one of the best decisions for not only myself but my niece as well. My niece loved the staff there and so did I. She has returned home a much happier and calmer child. The techniques they taught her has helped her tremendously. Thank you to everyone that had a part in my baby girls transformation.
Thank you for the tour. Your campus, staff and school are amazing. Although my son is too old to participate in your program, it is nice to see these services are here for other military families. I will spread the word.
The staff at BR is AMAZING!!!
My daughter was diagnosed with( rad ) which is reactive attachment disorder. She obtained the symptoms in the period where she was not living with me due to constant negative occurrences during that period of time. After multiple doctor visits and six different types of therapists. I had reached out to my insurance company which is provided to me through my wife's employment with Fairfax County VA. They were very very helpful, after reviewing her case they suggested the best Center for her treatment was the Barry Robinson Center. Now after pondering on sending my daughter away for a longer period of time than normal. I decided to take her because if she didn't get the help she needed she would never get better. My daughter has been at the center for a couple of months and I've noticed a complete turnaround now I cannot say she is fixed she was never broken. The therapist that is working with my daughter is definitely the best one for her. She has taught my daughter how to control her disorder my daughter tells me that the staff are a little strict. But without rules there would be chaos. As far as the premises it needs a little help. Overall the Barry Robinson Center deserved five stars only because they are helping my daughter it's because they are helping multiple children with an array of symptoms.
The quality care exhibited by the staff at The Barry Robinson Center is exceptional. Full disclosure - I have been consulting with them for several months, and in that capacity, have had the privilege of in-depth conversations with the CEO, other executive staff and some of the teachers, as well as visits in the school and dorms. I've seen interactions among staff and residents, and it's evident that the staff are working together to help each child thrive. If I were a parent of a child or teen with mental illness who needed residential treatment, The Barry Robinson Center would be at the top of my list. They are passionate about helping children and families.
I have been to several events at this facility public/private and have met several of the children, staff, parents and board members all seem happy, professional and most helpful. The new CEO and executive committee have made dramatic positive changes for the betterment of this residential treatment center.
I went here for 7-8 months in the power dorm the staff were great except ms.robin the food was ok and the facility was well kept
I went here for 3 months and wouldn't ask for anything more. This place genuinely helped me with a lot of my problems I was having before I was admitted. 10/10 would recommend.
this looks beautiful and very good!!!!! i need to go there.
